Paradoxical Vasodilatation during lower body negative pressure in patients with vasodepressor carotid sinus syndrome

Article Abstract:

The pathophysiological mechanism of the vasodepressor (VD) form of carotid sinus syndrome (CSS) is eluciated by maneuvers designed to induce generalized sympathetic activation after baroreceptor unloading (lower body negative pressure, LBNP) or direct peripheral adrenoreceptor stimulation. It was found that VD of CSS is associated with a paradoxical vasodilatation during LBNP and an impairment of peripheral alpha-adrenergic responsiveness.

Age-dependent differences in presentation, risk factor profile, and outcome of suspected acute coronary syndrome

Article Abstract:

A comparative study of the risk factors and upshots of suspected acute coronary syndrome in those older than 65 and those of a younger age bracket is presented. It is shown that older patients have worse upshots. The importance of doctors accessing angiography for elderly patients is stressed.

Treatment of vasodepressor carotid sinus syndrome with midodrine: a randomized, controlled pilot study

Article Abstract:

A study analyzing the efficacy of using midodrine for treating vasodepressor form of carotid sinus hypersensitivity is presented. The drug is found to be effective and substantial reduction in systolic blood pressure was achieved with its use.
