Plasma antioxidants and cognitive performance in middle-aged and older adults: results of the Austrian stroke prevention study
Article Abstract:
An Austrian Stroke Preventing Study of middle-aged and older adults found individuals with scores on the Mattis Dementia Rating Scale below the lowest quartile cut-off point showed lower levels of beta-carotene and alpha-tocopherol than individuals ranked higher. It was noted that some dietary antioxidants may protect against cognitive impairment in older adults.
