Relationship between age and aspects of depression: Consistency and reliability across two longitudinal studies
Article Abstract:
The cross-sectional and longitudinal age and gender differences in each of the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale's 4 subscales of depressive symptomatology are examined. Results indicate a reasonable degree of stability among adults under 70 years of age, however there were significant age-related increases in somatic symptoms and lack of well-being after approximately 70 years of age.

Loneliness as a specific risk factor for depressive symptoms: Cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses
Article Abstract:
The extent to which loneliness is a unique risk factor for depressive symptoms was determined in two population-based studies of middle-aged to older adults, and the possible causal influences between loneliness and depressive symptoms were examined. The data suggests that loneliness and depressive symptomatology can act in a synergistic effect to diminish well-being in middle-aged and older adults.

Adult life span changes in immediate visual memory and verbal intelligence
Article Abstract:
A study of 1,721 17-to-102-year-olds of both sexes revealed that aging is directly correlated to depletion in visual memory and verbal intelligence skills in the subjects. Deficiencies in cognitive skills start to creep in and accelerate rapidly in the 65 to 75 age period.
