Cognitive impairment without dementia in older people: prevalence, vascular risk factors, impact on disability: The Italian Longitudinal Study on Aging

Article Abstract:

The Italian Longitudinal Study on Aging has found cognitive impairment no dementia (CIND) in older people in a study of 3425 persons aged 65-84. Data are offered on its prevalence, the vascular risk factors, and its impact on disability. CIND has been found to be frequent in the elderly, more frequent in females with association with stroke, heart failure and age. The effect of demographic variables and vascular conditions offers opportunities for prevention. The association with functional impairment is usable in evaluating the burden of disability and healthcare demands.
