The Kemp's ridley sea turtle was saved from possible extinction through the constant lobbying efforts of environmentalist Carole Allen. Allen's efforts at establishing the non profit group Help Endangered Animals - Ridley Turtles provided the necessary forum to spur the government to create and enforce needed environmental legislation.

Don't break the seal

Article Abstract:

Brian Davies has spent 20 years campaigning against the slaughter of baby seals in the east coast of Canada. Davies established the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) which advocates the preservation of the seals. The IFAW presented a petition to the Canadian government urging an end to seal hunting.

An ex-teacher's crusade: strike tree and you're out

Article Abstract:

Retired schoolteacher Gaby Moyer co-founded the Friends of Dixie National Forest (FOD) movement to help in efforts to preserve Utah's forests. She believes the region can best be developed as a recreation area. She and FOD will take part in future moves to prevent logging of Boulder Mountain.
