Time and cost for recruiting older adults
Article Abstract:
An inexpensive method for recruiting older adults for a home-based nutrition education study is presented. A random selection of 1,300 older adults were sent an introductory letter followed by a phone call. Eighty-three percent were reached by phone. A total of 2,895 calls were needed to determine the eligibility of each person. Forty-five percent were recruited for the trial. The total cost per subject recruited was $8.56.

The relationship between body mass index and self-reported functional limitation among older adults: a gender difference
Article Abstract:
This article examines gender differences in the relationship between functional status and body mass index among the elderly. Findings indicate that when the index was based on national obesity guidelines, functional limitations were associated with body mass in both groups but a gender-specific index only revealed functional limitation risks for women.

Dietary patterns of rural older adults are associated with weight and nutritional status
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to characterize the dietary patterns of the rural older adults and relate the patterns to weight and nutritional status. It is seen that the behavioral interventions encouraging diets characterized by high-nutrient-dense foods may improve weight and nutritional status of the older people.
