Article Abstract:

The importance of those who review manuscripts committed to the Journals of Gerontology and advice for authors whose articles fail to get published are discussed. Reviewers have a difficult task and need to be appreciated. A manuscript must cover something beyond just the research carried out in order to be published. Another aspect discussed is the increase in page allocation which allows the publication of more articles and is a welcome step, as issues relating to age and aging are gaining more scientific, political, and topical relevance.

Congress passes regressive D.C. appropriations bill

Article Abstract:

Congress has approved the House appropriations bill banning privately funded abortions in Washington, DC, and prohibiting the use of DC Medicaid funds to pay for abortions. The bill also repealed the 'domestic partner' provisions of the DC code. DC delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton labeled the House action as 'oppressive, insulting and disrespectful' to the rights of the DC residents. Meanwhile, Rep. Barney Frank says the bill undermines the importance of family by preventing same-sex partners from registering as a couple.
