Countywide employment and population growth: an analysis of the 1980s
Article Abstract:
The population and employment changes in the US for the period of 1981-1989 are modeled based on a previous study by Carlino and Mills. This novel model makes use of several modifications which include the evaluation of five varied areas of employment, fiscal changes, and the addition of desirable features. Findings indicate increase of employment with population that contradicts the weak feedback effects. Moreover, in the majority of the sectors, employment changes are also governed by changes in policies.

The impact of economic opportunity, amenities and fiscal factors on age-specific migration rates
Article Abstract:
The county net migration in the US from 1970 to 1980 was analyzed using an age-specific empirical model. Employment opportunities, amenities and state and local fiscal factors were integrated into a life-cycle model. Results of the analysis reveal that these three factos do follow a life-cycle pattern. Middle-aged males consider amenities important, more than the younger generation. Implications to fiscal policies are considerable.
