Comparing static and dynamic estimates of behavioral responses to changes in family composition or income
Article Abstract:
Considerable differences in estimated effects of changing family composition, income, and wife's work are shown by comparing static estimates of behavioral responses with dynamic estimates and by using different time spans for the dynamic estimates. Among the factors shown to cause the differences are bias in the cross-section estimates from un-measured and possibly un-measurable variables that do not affect the dynamic change model; lags in adjustment (static data closer to long-run effects); and different relative importance of errors in measuring the explanatory variables. It is postulated that the effects of changing family composition are less affected by the above problems than the estimated effects of changes in income or wife's work are.

Household decision behavior: the impact of husbands' and wives' sex role orientation
Article Abstract:
This study examines the impact of sex role orientation on the outcome of a family home purchase decision. A relatively strong relationship is found between sex role orientation (SRO) and the degree of household influence, preference agreement, model of conflict resolution, and decision outcome, Finally, it is found that household decision behavior is between explained in the context of a theoretical network of systemic household relationships rather than through a series of bivariate family relationships.
