Determining who voted in historical elections: an aggregated logit approach

Article Abstract:

Individual data may not be available on social behavior and aggregated data have to be used. There are problems when using aggregate data with a heterogeneous population. There are also dangers in seeking to infer individual traits from aggregate data. A study of voting shows that low per capita income does not imply a large number of poor people, and a gini coefficient may be needed for the macrocoefficient to be related to a microcoefficient. The ecological fallacy can be a problem but this can be eliminated.

Ethnic concentration and Chicano poverty: a comparative approach

Article Abstract:

Chicano poverty has increased in the 1980s and data from the 1990 census has been analysed and two hypotheses have been tested. The analysis shows that the poverty rate is highest where there is a high ethnic density of Chicanos, and that Chicano poverty is a particular problem in the south western regions of the US. Different strategies may be needed in tackling this problem from strategies needed for tackling poverty in other social groups. Educational levels and the ability to vote are two key areas.
