Shared housing: an adaptable affordable housing option
Article Abstract:
A current development in the housing industry is an effort to promote shared housing as a way to respond to demographic and social changes in the US. Primary beneficiaries of shared housing arrangements are the elderly. However, a study by the Shared Housing Resource Center indicates that while shared housing has many benefits, most programs are not self-sufficient and need funds. For shared housing to become a successful option, professionals involved with shared housing must work to educate the public. Three case studies are presented to illustrate successful shared housing programs and to indicate what innovative financing techniques have been used to achieve success.

Grounds maintenance
Article Abstract:
Proper grounds maintenance supports the goal of offering safe, decent, suitable neighborhood housing, promoting improved property values and local pride. Plantings can enhance the security of public places, steer community traffic away from isolated areas where crime may occur, and provide symbolic barriers that control pedestrian traffic. Daily maintenance activities, soil management, weed and insect control, and fertilizer use are discussed.
