Food and nutrition services in assisted living facilities: Boon or big disappointment for elder nutrition?

Article Abstract:

An attempt made to determine whether assisted living facilities that provide new opportunities for improved quality of life including food and nutrition in case of elders would be effective is presented. Practical tips for assisting elders and their families in choosing good facilities, along with the principles that should drive advocacy efforts to improve food and nutrition services in these living situations is explained.

Federal food and nutritional assistance programs for older people

Article Abstract:

Federal food and nutrition assistance programs are available to help older adults, but lack of funds, resources and nutritional expertise have affected its growing demand. However, it is observed that some government programs use a higher federal poverty standard to determine eligibility for older adults, tend to serve more younger women, children and adolescents, and may even equivalent services for older adults.

Nutrition and older adults-why you should care talking to families and caregivers

Article Abstract:

Efforts made to encourage young people to value the role of nutrition in good health and to emphasize with their older friends and family members who are facing difficulties that affect their ability or desire to eat well is presented. Some suggestions that families including children and teenagers can take to improve the nutrition of elders are mentioned.
