Friends' religiosity and first sex
Article Abstract:
The network subsample of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health was used to examine the effect of friends' religiosity on the probability of first sex, which found that the friends' religiosity has an independent influence on adolescent sexual behavior that is similar in magnitude to personal religiosity. The results supported the hypothesis that group influences depend on the degree of embeddedness within the network, thus highlighting the importance of studying religion as a property of groups as well as individuals.
