Household Production in the Philippines: A Non- Neoclassical Approach
Article Abstract:
By using an economic approach to human behavior, neoclassical economists promote the notion that household behavior is caused basically by a collective interest in economic efficiency. They also believe that households desire exogenous maximization so that different responses depend on the different prices and incomes. This is based on the treatment of joint utility functions as exogenous constants. An alternative approach to household decision making, which is in accord with economic rationality and empirical analysis, is developed. A neoclassical study of the Philippines in a 1975 survey is featured. Parental authority over young children agrees with the altruistic dictator theory. Tables of statistics on the impact of age composition of surviving children on the annual income of a household are included.

Outward-oriented developing economies really do grow more rapidly: evidence from 95 LDCs, 1976-1985
Article Abstract:
Developing countries in the Asian region have attained higher economic growth rates than countries in Latin America and Africa due to economic programs that encourage export-oriented policies and foreign investments. Economic indicators such as per capita income growth, average price levels and per capita gross domestic product rates of 95 developing countries from 1976 to 1985 were analyzed. It was concluded that free trade policies, low price levels and steady real exchange rates can improve economic performance.
