How to keep that innovative spirit alive: An examination of evolving innovative hot spots
Article Abstract:
Hot spots are regions with a concentration of high-technology firms that are leaders in their respective industries. Examples of hot spots are Silicon Valley in California and Route 128 in Massachusetts. An analysis of the development, maturation and decline of these two hot spots and a brief description of two emerging hot spots, Research Triangle in North Carolina and Silicon Gulch in Austin, TX, are presented. Recommendations on how to maintain the properity of hot spots and how to avoid the problems currently plaguing Silicon Valley and Route 128 are given.

Article Abstract:
Pollution from buses has been reduced significantly through regulation of emissions with standards. Additional, marginal reductions could be obtained by retrofitting older engines, and by tightening standards. The cost of alternative fuels does not indicate that they should be used.
