Managing technology at the Indianapolis 500
Article Abstract:
The concept of technological advance is studied via an analysis of progress in the speed of qualifiers to the Indianapolis 500 motor race. The concept generally involves many small improvements and occasional big breakthroughs. The management of this famous race has been able to contain abrupt improvements in racing time by setting pertinent rules and standards that also serve as achievement goals for participants. Management has considered this constraint on technology as a means to maintain audience interest and incrementally build up spectator enthusiasm through the years.
