Medium size cities
Article Abstract:
A study analyzed the contribution of medium size cities in economies, examining the experiences of Brazil, Japan, Korea, and the USA and other countries. The study claims that city size contributions are stable over time and that medium size cities are highly-specialized compared to the metro regions, particularly in the manufacturing sector. Thus, medium size cities usually become manufacturing centers or service centers of products that are exported outside the city.

Local regulation may be excessively stringent
Article Abstract:
Changes in capital mobility may account for the discrepancy of regulatory policies adopted by local government and federal governments. Under intense capital mobility, regulations tend to be onerous, thereby influencing tax bases to decline and increasing the movement of individuals outside the state. Such changes may eventually compel firms to adapt with high environmental standards which would in turn, incur substantial increase in expenditure.
