Nutritional interventions for age-related chronic disease

Article Abstract:

The optimal diet to delay or prevent the most common age-related diseases or disorders and the most effective nutritional therapies for treatment is presented. Nutritional strategies are an important aspect of both prevention and treatment of chronic conditions where the strategies include modification of dietary behavior, increased consumption of key nutrients, and attainment or maintenance of optimal weight.

Practical advice for healthy eating and choosing supplement food items are presented as the hype created by advertisement of several nutritional-related products can mislead consumers. The suggestions include consuming a plant-based diet providing at least five servings of fruits and vegetables and three servings of whole grain foods daily.

Foods that are modified in texture or high in calories that are presented in attractive settings can help maintain appetite and food intake in the vulnerable old people.
