On the emergence of multinational corporations in developing economies: a note
Article Abstract:
The presence of multinational companies (MNCs) in less-developed countries has been a controversial issue. A study by Barnet and Muller claims that MNCs destroy jobs, especially when they are capital-intensive and labor-saving. However, positive spillover effects in the Mexican manufacturing industry have caused job generation by MNCs. It is shown that the spillover effects of MNCs reduce employment in the multinational sector and raise employment and income in the host country.
