Parent cultural control through organizational acculturation: HCN employees learning new work values in foreign business subsidiaries
Article Abstract:
Organizational acculturation occurs when local employees of foreign subsidiaries learn new work values from the organizational culture of the parent company. The impact of acculturation was investigated by examining middle managers in Singapore who were employed in Swedish companies. Findings suggested that certain work values of the Swedish had been embraced, indicating that the local managers had gone through organizational acculturation. The information on managerial style of Swedish organizations led to a reduced job tension and stress, and a confidence in disagreeing with their bosses among Singaporean managers.
