Planning around the Dunajec River water reservoirs on the Polish-Slovakian border

Article Abstract:

The construction of Dunajec River dam on the Polish-Slovakian border has adversely affected the natural and cultural landscape in the Pieniny and Spish region. Despite vehement protests from villagers and warnings from scientists, the Polish government proceeded to build the dam in 1964, which by 1994 was only 60% complete. Further consequences to the environment and culture of the region are expected if no actions are taken to curve the existing trends of threats posed by the Dunajec Dam project. Recommendations to reduce these threats are presented.
