Practices and actions: a Wittgensteinian critique of Bourdieu and Giddens

Article Abstract:

Social theorists adopt the concept of individuality and totality to identify the nature of social life. Practice theorists strongly support the proposition that practical understanding and intelligibility are articulated in practices. Bourdieu's and Giddens' analyses illuminate the relationship between practices and actions in an intellectualized manner which has been highly criticized by other scholars.

How not to structure a social theory: A reply to a critical response

Article Abstract:

The author of 'The Structure of Social Theory' responds to Karsten Stueber's objections to his criticisms of contemporary social theory. Stueber's advocacy of a return to a dualistic ontology of structure and agency is opposed and the ontology of social relations against ontological dualism is re-affirmed.
