Reflexing Complexity: Post-genomic knowledge and reductionist returns in public science

Article Abstract:

The salient feature of complexity is the up-to-date genomic sciences that expresses both complexity and its opposite predictive determinism and reductionism, as coexistent representations of nature and scientific knowledge. The contradictions of complex scientific understandings are systematically created by sciences own embodiment of epistemic commitments influenced by commercial cultures, and by imagined publics who are important new constructed objects of institutional scientific concerns.

Complexity, configuration and cases

Article Abstract:

A distinction is made between simplistic complexity and complex complexity. The possibility of 'complex' and 'complexity' as a frame of reference for action-research towards the transformation of complex social systems are explored.
