Article Abstract:
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) facilities across the US receive various historical reference requests where one such request was from a researcher who was writing a book on historical ballads and was having questions regarding Leavenworth. Archivists claim St. Lawrence as their patron saint because he lost his life protecting church records and his feast day is August 10, a date that offered an important clue to locating obscure prison records.

The "confidential" files in NARA reveal the as-yet-untold and riveting story of the government's efforts during World War II to thwart potential sabotage of one of the nation's most strategic and vulnerable targets-Hoover Dam.
