Shedding light on war crimes
Article Abstract:
The Japanese Imperial Government Records Interagency Working Group has been able to declassify approximately 2.7 mil pages of documents about war crimes investigations following World War II. Those documents that might impair US national security will not be made public, while the majority will be released.

"Two Japans': Japanese expressions of sympathy and regret in the wake of the Panay incident
Article Abstract:
Japanese naval aircraft bombed and sank the USS gunboat Panay while it was escorting oil tankers near Shanghai, China, in 1937. The official Japanese position was the attack was unintentional, yet many letters of sympathy from Japanese citizens were sent to the US embassy in Tokyo and to Washington, D.C.

Return to sender: U.S. censorship of enemy alien mail in World War II
Article Abstract:
The federal government set up 16 stations shortly after the beginning of World War II to censor the mail of captured enemy military forces. This effort would grow to include in Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Provost Marshal General's office, and the Office of Censorship.
