Should we expect the Baldridge Award to predict a company's financial success? Lessons from the financial performance of excellent firms
Article Abstract:
The Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award was established in 1987 to foster among US companies excellence in the areas of leadership, information and analysis, strategic quality planning, human resource utilization, quality assurances of products and services, quality results and customer satisfaction. The financial performances of 12 excellent companies in the office equipment and computer industry were analyzed to determine if the Baldridge Award also determined profitability. Results indicate that excellence does not necessarily translate into financial success.

Determining the going market value of a business in an emerging information technology industry: the case of the cellular communications industry
Article Abstract:
A model that can be used to make long-term projections of the market value of a business is introduced. It incorporates market penetration models included in the well-known value-based planning approach recommended in obtaining the going market value of a business, making it appropriate for the cellular communications industry and other information technology sectors. Its ability to make long-run value projections and other features render it valuable to potential entrants and investors to the industry than the short-term regression/econometric approaches.

Timing, diffusion, and substitution of successive generations of technological innovations: the IBM mainframe case
Article Abstract:
A model is proposed for simultaneously representing the development of a technological innovation and the succeeding products based upon it. According to the model, product launch strategies, should take into consideration the maturity of the current generation or the state of the product's predecessor. Analysis of the IBM mainframe systems using the model suggests that the 360 and 370 models should have had shorter time to market.
