Structural changes in labor demand and unemployment in local labor markets
Article Abstract:
A generalized economic model was developed to determine the effects of structural alterations in labor demand to the unemployment rate. Employment shifts which represent structural changes in firm-sized labor demand has a significant positive effect on the rate of unemployment from 1976-1980 and from 1980-1984. Furthermore, the model exhibited the asymmetric relationship between unemployment insurance index and local unemployment from 1976-1980 and 1980-1984.

The role of defense cuts in the California recession: computable general equilibrium models and interstate factor mobility
Article Abstract:
A multisectoral, computable general equilibrium model (CGE) was developed to determine the effects of assumptions of factor mobility on regional economic analysis. The CGE model and the closed-economy model exhibited similar dynamics in international trade when capital and labor are localized in the state. Furthermore, reductions in federal defense expenditures caused a significant downturn in the economy of California during the recession.

Convergence and the U.S. states: a time-series analysis
Article Abstract:
The regional economic performance of US states and regions was analyzed by utilizing time-series techniques for economic convergence. The relative per capita earnings in US states and regions exhibited decreasing stochastic convergence after the end of World War II. However, US states such as New England, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine exhibited temporary downward stochastic divergence in per capita earnings from 1929 to 1978.
