University research exerts a positive impact on Canada's gross domestic product (GDP) and employment. The effect, called dynamic impact, results since university research contributes to the development of human capital as well as in the transfer of knowledge. University research also enhances the position of the country in a knowledge-intensive, globally competitive marketplace as it promotes the creation of new products.
