The legal protection of two regional aquatic environments: the Black Sea and the Azov Sea
Article Abstract:
The Ukrainian environmental policy on the Black Sea and the Azov Sea which it shares with Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania, is partially derived from that of the former Soviet Union. It employs permits and fines and the regulatory agencies include the Ukrainian Ministry for Environmental Protection and the Black Sea Navy. International activities for protecting the two seas include the three-year Program for Environmental Management and Protection of the Black Sea, the Bucharest Convention on the Protection of the Black Sea Against Pollution, and the Odessa Ministerial Declaration on the Protection of the Black Sea.

The Kola peril and the Scandinavian countries: a new form of cooperation
Article Abstract:
The ecological degradation caused by the industries in the Kola Peninsula has prompted the Scandinavian countries to encourage international cooperation to reverse this trend. The former Soviet Union spearheaded the efforts which resulted in the agreement to the need to modernize the smeltering plants in the peninsula. However, the plan has been temporarily experiencing problems because of the indecision on which technology to use, the breakup of the Soviet Union and the lack of funding for Russia.
