The variable effects of family background on the timing of first marriage: United States, 1969-1993

Article Abstract:

A sampling of 6,570 people in the United States is used to examine the influence of family background in first marriages between 1969 and 1993. The author determines family income and mother's education decreases in influence on first marriage timing and has declined over time and as the child ages. Implications of this research is also explored.
