Total factor productivity in the contiguous United States, 1977-1986
Article Abstract:
A study of the total factor productivity (TFP) among the 48 US states from 1977 to 1986, was conducted using a linear programming technique and the Malmquist productivity index. The procedure break down the changes in the productivity into changes in technical efficiency, scale efficiency, and technology, to determine which part of the 48 states' productivity growth was hastened by these changes. The result showed that during the period 1977 to 1986, the average annual growth rate of the US' TFP was less than one-half of one percent. The low growth rate was partly due to a decline in technical efficiency by about one percent, in addition to other economic factors.

Regional exchange rate indexes for the United States
Article Abstract:
The construction of regional exchange rate indexes for the nine US Bureau of the Census is described. The findings show that the regional exchange rate indexes are nontrivially different from the total index for the US. The national index is cointegrated with only two of these regional indexes, and in a Granger sense, it is causing only one regional index. Furthermore, it is found that two of the regional exchange rate indexes are interchangeable with the overall US index.

The differential regional effects of monetary policy evidence from the U.S. states
Article Abstract:
The impact of monetary policy on US states in the period between 1958 and 1992 was studied using time-series techniques. Impulse response functions revealed differences in policy responses which were substantial in some cases. Evidences on the reasons for the measured cross-state differential policy responses were provided. It was also shown that the size of the state's response is significantly related to industry-mix variables.
