Urban primacy in Saudi Arabia
Article Abstract:
Saudi Arabia's rapid rate of urbanization for the past three decades is the combined result of economic growth, population increase, government incentives and the development of infrastructure sector. The rate of urban primacy in the country was measured at 0.47 in 1962 which increased to 0.59 in 1974. The central region was considered to have the most uneven urban structure while the western and southern regions exhibited a positive trend towards greater urban primacy. It is suggested that the government should integrate public investment and population distribution policies.

The re-use of buildings in historic towns: a coincidence of economic and cultural activities
Article Abstract:
The wisdom of reusing buildings in historic towns has been assessed. Towns and buildings are becoming important cultural resources that should be carefully managed in a world driven by technological innovations. This observation implies that buildings should be reused when it would be wasteful or inefficient to destroy them. The long term costs of use of old buildings must be evaluated against other alternatives since the former require a lot of maintenance which future generations may not be willing to support.
