Why haven't we been more successful advocates for elders?
Article Abstract:
The modest progress made by leaders in the advocacy for elder's issues in twenty-five years is discussed. Cuts in the Social Security cost-of-living allowances and block granting the Medicaid program are some of the successful ideas, which have cut back truly ill-conceived notions, but the actions have merely averted harm, as they have not built stronger programs or better-prepared working Americans for their futures.

Developing an advocacy coalition with varied interests and agendas: a Pennsylvanian experience
Article Abstract:
The forming of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Partnership for Aging (SWPPA), which brought together individuals from ten countries in and around Pittsburgh, is discussed. The organization focused on building coalitions, establishing personal bonds between members and thus help in developing a mission statement that could be embraced by a diverse membership.
