A classic of its time

Article Abstract:

Harry Braverman's book, 'Labor and Monopoly Capital: The Degradation of Work in the Twentieth Century,' unifies and reorganizes industrial sociology and stratification theory within political sociology. Braverman puts forth a dynamic hierarchy based on status rather than on work. He examines how workers become removed from their labor and objectified as production units in order to meet managerial needs rather than examine the adjustment of workers to work. He describes the overshadowing of the industrial craftworker and refers to the suppression of their intellectuality.

Critical sociology: a dialogue between two sciences

Article Abstract:

A study of the discipline of sociology was conducted to examine the immanent tendencies and potentialities. The main objective was to explicate reflexive science as an ideal typical counterpart to positive science by investigating the parallels between sociology and industry. Results indicate that the only way for sociology to advance is to articulate and defend an alternative scientific model that forces positive approaches to confront the challenge of their own imperfections.
