A political perspective

Article Abstract:

Dick Morris, a Democratic political strategist reported at the NAHRO Legislative Conference held in March 2004 that LHAs should emphasize their roles in medium-sized cities, highlight their importance to the rapidly expanding Hispanic community, and make alliances with faith-based organization in order to raise awareness of housing and community development ideas. He believes that a new packaging of housing program, one that embraces faith-based initiatives would help in gaining access to the Republican Party and the work that those groups do at a local level is quite compatible with the work LHAs are already doing.

HOPE VI has strayed

Article Abstract:

According to a recent U.S. General Accounting Office report, only 12% of the funds, local housing agencies expect to be leveraged, would come from private sources. No reliable evidence exists that HOPE VI has improved the lives of people, in fact it is termed a failed program of the past.
