An evaluation of computer-assisted self-interviews in a school setting
Article Abstract:
Surveys on sensitive information can be administered through the conventional pencil and paper method or through computer-assisted interviewing (CAI). To determine the differences between the methods, adolescents in alternative education centers in the Minneapolis/St Paul area were subjected to both interviewing methods and the results were compared. It was discovered that there were no significant differences in the reporting of nonsensitive information. Another finding is that the distance between computers adds to the perception of privacy among respondents.
