Antonovsky's sense of coherence concept: an instrument for primary prevention in social work services
Article Abstract:
The sense of coherence (SOC) concept was developed by medical sociologist Aaron Antonovsky as a tool to provide social workers with an insight into the capacity of an individual to cope with role stressors. The feasibility of the concept was tested by using the 29-item Orientation Life Questionnaire to measure the SOC of 10,000 individuals from different countries. The SOC in its two basic modes of independent and dependent variable proved to be effective for designing more suitable social service interventions.
