Autobiographical occasions
Article Abstract:
Autobiography is a social practice inspired by various social forces, formal literary products, and all kinds of psychological therapy. However, recent autobiographical studies focus less on the social structures which determine the occasions for and the character of the narratives. Rather, they draw upon disciplines, such as literary theory, philosophy, and anthropology, that develop out of political impulse. Focusing on social structures helps to answer questions regarding the relationship between the self and society.

The autobiographical process
Article Abstract:
An autobiography partially assumes the nature of fiction as it constructs a life rather than merely relating a life as lived. However, it risks falling in self-made traps for ego-defence or dissonance-reduction and thereby concealing possibilities of choice. Its discourse involves a discourse of witness and interpretation. The correctness of an autobiography depends upon genre conventions in the minds of the writer and readers regardless of limitations imposed by culture.

On the threshhold of a new start: reflections on the fate of the socialist idea
Article Abstract:
The author discusses the global resurgence of socialist thought as a response to current problems and changes occurring in the world. Socialist thought takes shape around several political functions, including a need to mobilize mass populations groups in modernization efforts, the limiting of social differentiation through the redistribution of material goods and legal power, and the reorganization of the social organism and structure.
