Confronting a rising tide of eating disorders and obesity: treatment vs. prevention and policy
Article Abstract:
Attention to eating disorders and obesity needs to shift from treatment to prevention and public policy. These disorders are not easily solved by intervention, aside from being expensive and thus, affordable to only a few. Research efforts on prevention is urged, while legislation and regulations directed at food price stabilization, promotion of physical activity, improvement of healthful food consumption and control of exposure to messages about unhealthful foods should be enacted.
