Ranking world cities: multinational corporations and the global urban hierarchy
Article Abstract:
The present system based largely on the corporate headquarters of multinational corporations (MNCs) overemphasizes developed world cities to the exclusion of the developing world. Adding MNC first-level subsidiaries to the ranking establishes global linkages and a role for other regions in the global economy.
