Article Abstract:

A study tour of housing and urban development activities in the Netherlands was jointly sponsored by the National Association of Housing & Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) and the University of Delaware in March 2006. The study tour explored the uniquely Dutch response to common housing and community issues between the Netherlands and the US through a series of field trips and meetings with local planners, preservationists, and housing association executives.

Mandela Gateway: Mixed-use housing development

Article Abstract:

Mandela Gateway in Oakland is a mixed-use, mixed-income housing development designed to relate to the very different neighborhood contexts represented along each surrounding street front. The project has contributed to income-sensitive revitalization and redevelopment by providing affordable housing with elite architecture, transit access and enabling integration of low-income families.

Summer Hill Apartments

Article Abstract:

Summer Hill Apartments in Lincoln is a mixed-income development built into a middle- and upper middle-class neighborhood. The apartments have the appearance of upscale market-rate housing to earn the acceptance of neighbors and to entice market-rate tenants to live in mixed-income housing.
