Community development across borders: Avoiding dangerous practices in a globalizing world

Article Abstract:

Community development (CD) is used to mobilize people in small geographical areas and across borders to transfer lessons learnt in specific localities to others, but care should be taken to avoid dangerous practices in a globalizing world. Opportunities or opportunitism, egalitarian or exploitative relationships and partnership or paternalism are some of the issues that community workers should address while crossing borders under the CD.

Working with violent men from a feminist social work perspective

Article Abstract:

An argument is presented supporting the use of feminist theory and women social workers in cases involving violent or abusive men. It is posited that the men simultaneously learn about the rights of others while learning to communicate with a social group they have previously oppressed.

The role of registration in ensuring ethical practice

Article Abstract:

A description of arrangements, requirements and processes of registration in New Zealand and the UK is presented. The findings indicate that registration is linked to regulation based on codes of conduct, leading to a discussion of the implications for ethical practice.
