Crossing borders into Turkish sociology with Gunder Frank and Michel Foucault
Article Abstract:
Gunder Frank and Michel Foucault have both contributed to the understanding of Turkish society. Frank was a sociologist who gained prominence in the 1970s. His primary contribution to Turkish society was the concept of radical struggle against oppression which promises emancipation of the nation from underdevelopment. On the other hand, Foucault, a 'journalist-researcher-writer,' influenced Turkish society through his work 'Discipline and Punish.' Other major contributions of Frank and Foucault played a great role in unravelling Turkey as a society.

Democratic transition: South African sociology
Article Abstract:
South African sociology has been affected by its association to discrimination. Since the idea of ethnic separation came about amid extreme racial inequality and racial inequality among black South Africans, sociologists, even of the modern times, have not been able to dissociate themselves from this past reality. South African sociology has been preoccupied with chronicling the country's transition from racial discrimination and bigotry to a democratic society.

Fragmentation, social theory, and feminism: sociology in the United Kingdom
Article Abstract:
An interplay of complex factors characterizes the practice of sociology in the United Kingdom. One factor is the sociological theory that explains the current condition of the society and the fragmentation that greatly affects the society as a whole. Another factor that has a strong impact on UK sociology is feminism, since many sociologists are feminists who advocate the idea of equality between man and woman.
