Dark mysterious wanderers: the migrating metaphor of the Gypsy
Article Abstract:
Gypsies share cultural practices and have a strong cultural identity, but they are not perceived as a real people in popular culture or literature. Gypsies are negatively stereotyped as criminals and child-stealers, although they are also perceived as free, romantic and mysterious wanderers. The misrepresentations are also perpetuated by Gypsies themselves as it helps to form group cohesion and define their opposition. Gypsy men are invariably portrayed in literature as dark and romantic outlaws, while Gypsy women are portrayed as unattainable and erotic.

Godzilla/Gojiro: evolution of the nuclear metaphor
Article Abstract:
The concept of Godzilla monster had a different meaning in Japanese and American cultures due to differences in their experiences of atomic bombings. However, the image of Godzilla has changed from villain to hero in both countries, which is exemplified in recent films and in Mark Jacobson's novel 'Gojiro.' The monster is depicted as a sympathetic beast in films and comics with a view to attracting youngsters. The new themes deviate from the monster's original nuclear metaphor.
