Dealing with the aggressive nursing home resident

Article Abstract:

Some nursing home residents may display aggressive behavior due to their change of lifestyle, physical impairment, social and environmental factors. Social workers can aid with the hostile elderly by evaluating the specific factors involved. This will help determine the suitable methods to be applied in dealing with aggresion. Some cases may call for a change of ambience with the surroundings while others may require psychological techniques in dealing with belligerent behavior. It is important that the social worker be able to assess the source of aggression and play the role from teacher to counselor.

Sexual adaptations of the frail elderly: a realistic approach

Article Abstract:

Sexuality among the elderly is a fact often condoned by society. However, the elderly need proper attention and guidance in addressing their sensual impulses. Expressions of sexuality among elderly varies in terms of reactions and psychological impact. Due to physical limitations brought on by aging, some elderly find substitutes for the act of physical consummation while others become emotionally distressed. It would be beneficial to both parties if social workers were able to acknowledge and comprehend sexual dilemmas of the aged.
