Decentralization and polarization: Contradictory trends in Hong Kong's postcolonial social landscape

Article Abstract:

A study investigates how the population of Hong Kong is affected by the post-colonial social and economic changes. Factor analysis of the 2001 census provides data which demonstrates that while the distinction between the traditional rural areas like the New Territories and the traditional urban areas such as Hong Kong Island and Kowloon has become blurred, a strong spatial polarization has also emerged.
