Cut out for the task
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom manufacturing regions have been hit by a slowdown linked to the Asian financial crisis and the strength of pound sterling. The government has been asked to reflate the economy, but prime minister, Tony Blair, argues that lack of investment, low productivity and lack of first class managers are partly to blame. Companies able to react rapidly to changes, and those with enough resources to survive two poor years are best placed. The government should not blame industry for all the problems it faces.

Defining the problem
Article Abstract:
Child abuse may be a familiar concept but both psychologists and concerned agencies have yet to arrive at a workable definition to guide societal responsibility and legal intervention. The problem is compounded by the cultural and historical differences in perceiving child care. Although a substantial amount of literature has focused on abstract concepts of abuse and risk of abuse, these studies must be synthesized into a single framework to arrive at a social science of child maltreatment and child protection.
