Discrepancies between men and women in reporting number of sexual partners: a summary from four countries
Article Abstract:
Men typically report more female sex partners than women's reports of male sex partners. This discrepancy in opposite-sex partner reporting holds across the US, Canada, Norway and the UK. The US data comes from five surveys of over 9,000 people, taken from 1970 to 1990. Over 6,000 Norwegians were surveyed in the winter of 1987-88. The British and Canadian surveys covered over 2,000 people in 1988-89. The most likely explanation for the differences is a gender bias in reporting.
