Discrimination of older workers in Germany: obstacles and options for the integration into employment

Article Abstract:

Age discrimination in Germany poses a grave threat to the employment of older workers. Employers favor a younger workforce that is better trained on new-trend technology and not yet affected by the physiological effects of aging. Instead of subjecting older workers to early retirement and unemployment, both the government and private sectors could upgrade older workers' skills and technological orientation through vocational training to maintain or enhance productivity. Furthermore, this will serve as incentive among younger workers by allaying their fears for their future well-being.
