Counseling homebound clients and their families
Article Abstract:
Four case studies of counseling homebound clients and their caregivers are presented. The cases involve a sickly elder who wants to live alone; a terminally ill elder and her aged sister; a sickly elder with Alzheimer's disease and her daughter; and a woman with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and her husband. The counseling objective for the sickly elderly is to promote the highest level of independence that the client and caregivers want while maintaining respect for family relationships and integrity of the homebound individual.

Case management as a force for quality assurance and quality improvement in home care
Article Abstract:
The quality of home and community-based care for the elderly can be improved by the adoption of a more active role by case managers. Using quality oversight procedures such as independent, administrative and on-site review, case managers and their agencies could raise the level of care received by their clients. Increased oversight would require policies balancing client autonomy with agency responsibility.
